What Washington County DUI Records Include
A DUI case record in Washington County contains several types of documents. The charging document names the statute violated, typically Transportation § 21-902, and describes the alleged conduct. The docket sheet tracks every event in the case: arraignment, hearing dates, continuances, plea entries, and sentencing. If the case went to trial, the verdict and sentencing record are part of the file.
Most Washington County DUI records are public. Anyone can access them without being a party to the case. Some documents may be restricted if a case involves a juvenile, an active investigation, or a court order sealing certain materials. But the standard charging document, docket, and judgment are open to the public under Maryland court rules.
DUI records typically show:
- Defendant's name, date of birth, and address
- Charge under Transportation § 21-902 (DUI) or § 21-902(b) (DWI)
- Arrest date and arresting agency
- Court dates and hearing outcomes
- Plea entered and final disposition
- Sentence imposed or probation terms
- Any license-related actions noted

Expungement of Washington County DUI Records
Expungement removes a DUI record from public view. Maryland's expungement law is found at Criminal Procedure § 10-105. Changes effective October 1, 2024 made probation before judgment (PBJ) outcomes eligible for expungement after 15 years. That means a Washington County resident who received a PBJ on a DUI charge in 2009 or earlier may now be eligible to file. A true conviction (guilty verdict or guilty plea) is generally not expungeable under current Maryland law.
To file for expungement in Washington County, you submit a petition to the Circuit Court or the District Court where the case was heard. There is no filing fee for expungement petitions. The State's Attorney's office at 36 W. Antietam Street has 30 days to object. If no objection is filed, the court can grant the expungement without a hearing. Resources at peoples-law.org explain the full process in plain language.
