How to Search Dundalk DUI Records

Start your search at Maryland Judiciary Case Search. This free system covers all Maryland courts, including the Baltimore County District Court locations that serve Dundalk. Enter the person's full name and filter by Baltimore County. If you have a case number, use that instead for a direct lookup. The system displays the charge, case status, all hearing dates, and the final outcome.

Case Search is the index. It shows the facts of the case but not the actual documents. To get the charging sheet, court orders, or other papers from a Dundalk DUI case, you need to contact the clerk's office. Baltimore County District Court has multiple locations. For Dundalk cases, check which District Court location the case was filed in. The online Case Search entry will show the court division.

DUI misdemeanor records are retained for 10 years after final disposition. The system is available any time and there is no limit on searches. You do not need to register or pay to use it. Expunged records are removed and will not appear, so a missing record does not always mean no case existed.

Note: Baltimore County District Court has several locations. If you visit in person, confirm the correct location for your specific Dundalk case before making the trip.

Baltimore County Courts for Dundalk DUI Cases

Dundalk is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County. All DUI cases are filed with Baltimore County courts. The District Court handles most Dundalk DUI charges. Baltimore County has multiple District Court locations, and cases are assigned based on where the offense took place. The clerk's office can confirm which location holds a specific Dundalk case. The District Court directory at mdcourts.gov/district/directories/baltimore lists all Baltimore County District Court locations and their phone numbers.

For more serious DUI charges, jury trials, and appeals from District Court, cases go to the Baltimore County Circuit Court. That court is at 401 Bosley Avenue, Towson, MD 21204. Towson is the county seat for Baltimore County and where all Circuit Court records are held. If a Dundalk DUI case was appealed or involved a felony charge, the Circuit Court in Towson has those records. Call the Circuit Court clerk directly to confirm whether a specific case is there.

Both the District Court and Circuit Court are public courts. Records from both are part of the Maryland Judiciary Case Search system. For certified copies or full case files, visit the clerk at whichever court handled the case. Fees are $0.50 per page for standard copies and $5.00 per certified document.

Dundalk Police and DUI Enforcement

The Baltimore County Police Department covers Dundalk through its Dundalk Precinct. The precinct is at 1748 Merritt Boulevard, Dundalk, MD 21222. The main phone number is 410-887-7070. For records related to a DUI arrest in Dundalk, call that number and ask for the records unit. Police records from a DUI stop in Dundalk come from this precinct, not from any city police since Dundalk is unincorporated.

Dundalk sees DUI enforcement activity on Merritt Boulevard and Dundalk Avenue, which are two of the main roads through the area. The waterfront area near the Patapsco River also sees patrols, especially during the summer months and on weekends. Checkpoints are periodically set up on these roads as part of Baltimore County's DUI enforcement program. If you were stopped at a checkpoint or arrested in the Dundalk area, the Dundalk Precinct is the agency that holds your arrest report.

Police incident reports and court case records are two different things. The police report stays with the Baltimore County Police. The court file goes to the District or Circuit Court clerk. Both are separate requests with separate fees and procedures. Getting both gives you the most complete picture of a Dundalk DUI case.

What Dundalk DUI Records Show

A Dundalk DUI case file starts with the charging document, which cites Transportation Article Section 21-902 and describes the facts of the stop. The file includes all court entries, the plea entered, any motions filed by either side, and the judge's final order. The order contains the sentence, which may include fines, jail time, probation terms, ignition interlock requirements, and any treatment programs ordered by the court.

Case Search shows you the surface of the file. The full case documents are at the clerk's office. Copy fees are $0.50 per page and $5.00 per certified copy. You can request copies in person at the relevant District Court location or the Circuit Court in Towson. Mail requests are accepted. Include the case number or the full name of the defendant, a note explaining what documents you need, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and payment for the estimated copy cost.

Dundalk DUI records are public records under Maryland law. Most DUI case documents are accessible to anyone who asks. The main exceptions are juvenile records and records sealed by court order. Adult DUI cases in Dundalk are open to the public unless they have been expunged.

The Maryland CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) database at the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services also holds criminal background data that may overlap with DUI records. The CJIS repository is at dpscs.state.md.us. This system is used primarily for background checks, not general public records searches.

Maryland DUI Laws That Apply to Dundalk Cases

Under Transportation Section 21-902, a BAC of .08 or above is DUI. A BAC of .07 is DWI. Both are criminal charges in Maryland. First DUI brings up to $1,000 in fines and up to one year in jail. Twelve points are placed on the driver's license. Second offense raises the fine to $2,000 and allows up to two years in prison, with 5 days mandatory. Two DUIs within five years require ignition interlock. Third offense DUI brings up to a $3,000 fine and three years behind bars, plus mandatory ignition interlock for three years.

DWI is the lesser charge. First DWI means up to $500 in fines, up to two months in jail, and 8 points on the license. Second DWI raises the potential jail time to one year. For drivers under 21, Maryland applies zero tolerance. Any detectable alcohol is enough for a DUI charge for underage drivers. For drivers who had a minor in the vehicle at the time of a DUI arrest in Dundalk, the law adds up to $1,000 more in fines and an extra year of potential jail time.

The administrative process starts at the scene. When a Dundalk driver fails a breath test, the officer confiscates the license and issues a 45-day paper temporary license. The suspension starts on day 46. The driver has 10 days to request an MVA hearing. That hearing request must be sent by certified mail with a $150 fee made out to the Maryland State Treasurer. Test refusal brings a 270-day suspension for the first time and two years for any subsequent refusal.

Expungement of Dundalk DUI Records

Maryland's expungement law under Criminal Procedure Section 10-105 applies to Dundalk DUI records just like it does anywhere in the state. The most significant change in recent years took effect October 1, 2024. Under that change, a Probation Before Judgment (PBJ) outcome for an alcohol DUI under Section 21-902(a) or (b) can be expunged after 15 years from when probation ended. There must be no new DUI conviction during those 15 years. Drug DUI charges under subsections (c) and (d) are not covered by this rule.

Not-guilty verdicts and dismissed cases are eligible for expungement without waiting. Stet cases become eligible after three years. DUI guilty convictions are not eligible for expungement. If your Dundalk DUI case ended with a guilty finding, the record is permanent in the court system unless the law changes again in the future.

To file for expungement of a Dundalk DUI record, get the petition form from the Baltimore County District Court clerk. File it at the court where your case was decided, pay the $30 fee, and serve the State's Attorney's Office. They have 30 days to respond. If they do not object, the court typically grants the expungement. For help understanding eligibility, People's Law Library breaks down the rules in plain language.
